Site Characteristics

General Site Description:
Site History:
Contamination Information: Suspected leakage from container storage area. Known usage of a paint/solvent disposal pit. Disposal pit was sampled by Century West Engineering Corp, and hazardous substances were detected.
Manner and Time of Release: Operating practice. On-site disposal of waste into pit. Time of release unknown.
Hazardous Substances/Waste Types: Solvents, mineral spirits, lead, mercury, zinc
Pathways: Documented soil and groundwater contamination; RCRA 3008 order going out
Environmental/Health Threats:
Status of Investigative or Remedial Action: In July 2008 EPA and DEQ issued a "Determination of Corrective Action Complete" for the Velco site and terminated the RCRA corrective action order. An Equitable Servitude and Easement (E&ES) was required on the norther portion of the site (Corrective Action Complete with Control). No controls were required on the southern portion of the site. A copy of the EPA/DEQ closure letter and the E&ES, and Statement of Basis (final EPA report documenting site can be closed) is available by clicking the Web Docs button. (8/11/2008 PSR).

In Oct 2012, about 70 tons of paint waste-impacted soils were removed from the site as part of a redevelopment. Soil was associated with the former warehouse structure where contaminated soil was not easilly accessible during previous soil removal work. In addition, 6 remaining monitoring wells were decommissioned following WRD rules. Due to the soil removal and follow-up residual RBC comparsion, DEQ determined that the Contaminated Media Management Plan was not neccessary. The EES was modified to remove the CMMP, but retained the other restrictions. The updated EES along with other documentation supporting the 2012 work is available on wedocs. (4/29/13 BET)
