Summary Information
(last updated on: 2/24/2023 9:32:11 AM)
[2/24/2023 VCP/FCL]: Multiple community groups expressed concerns related to PCB contaminated soil present in places adjacent to and possibly within Cathedral Park, primarily in the area around Peninsula Iron Works (PIW) and the UPRR railroad tracks (N Bradford St.) DEQ is currently working with PIW and UPRR to conduct investigations on their properties (see ECSI# 6480). DEQ received approval from EPA to perform a Site Specific Assessment to assess portions of the park that are a concern to these community groups to determine if PCB contamination is present.
The site assessment conducted by DEQ with EPA Brownfields funding was completed in June 2022. See a map of the sampling areas and results and read the associated factsheet.
While Brownfields work under this ECSI number is complete, on-going investigation is occurring by neighboring owners and operators under ECSI# 6480 PCB Areawide N. Bradford St. right-of-way .
