Summary Information
(last updated on: 6/1/2020 2:05:46 PM)
[Jan. 2017] Various chemicals were produced at the facility, which began operations in 1941, including: sodium chlorate, potassium chlorate, chlorine, sodium hydroxide, dichloro-dephenyltrichloroethante (DDT), sodium orthosilicate, sodium hydroxide, magnesium chloride hexahydrate, ammonia, ammonium perchlorate, sodium perchlorate, and hydrochloric acid. Manufacturing operations ceased in 2001, and the plant was decommissioned. Current site operations include the operation, monitoring and maintenance of source control measures which include: stormwater collection and treatment system, groundwater collection and treatment system and temporary soil caps. Primary site contaminants of concern include: DDT, chlorobenzene, chloroform, hexavalent chromium, perchlorate and chlorinated furans. Project focus since the completion of the remedial investigation in 2006 has been the implementation of upland source control measures to prevent the migration of contaminated stromwater and groundwater to the Willamette River in support of a planned U.S. Environmental Protection Agency early action to remove impacted river sediments adjacent to the site. Construction of a new site-wide stormwater collection and treatment system was completed in 2012, and construction of a groundwater barrier wall and groundwater treatment system was completed in 2013. Current project focus is on the performance of the stormwater and groundwater source control measures and the upland feasibility study to evaluate remedial alternatives for the upland site remedy.

Soil-bentonite groundwater cutoff wall construction
9/27/2012
Adding bentonite to cutoff wall excavation spoils. Once mixed to approximately 5% bentonite, the soil-bontonite slurry is placed back into the groundwater cutoff wall trench.

Mixing soil and bentonite for groundwater cutoff wall slurry backfill
8/26/2012
Excavation of groundwater cutoff wall. Depth to bedrock is approximately 88 feet at this location. Water/bentonite slurry entering trench from pipe keeps trench clear. Smaller trackhoe is mixing excavated soil with bentonite.
