Summary Information
(last updated on: 8/1/2013 3:05:12 PM)
[Aug. 2008] The former Velco facility manufactured paint and putty. Between 1969 and 1979, paint and solvent wastes generated at the facility were disposed of in an onsite unlined pit, which was backfilled in 1979. In 1984, a warehouse was built over part of the pit.
Environmental investigations began in 1986 and documented releases of hazardous substances to soil and groundwater, including lead, mercury, toluene, ethyl benzene, benzene, xylene, MEK, and acetone. In 1989, most of the paint in the pit was excavated, but contaminated soil under the walls of the warehouse was left in place.
In July 2008, EPA and DEQ issued a "Determination of Corrective Action Complete" for the Velco site and terminated the RCRA corrective action order. An Equitable Servitude and Easement (E&ES) was required on the northern portion of the site (Corrective Action Complete with Control). See the links below to access these documents.
