Summary Information
(last updated on: 9/10/2014 4:40:42 PM)
On December 12, 2009, frozen pipes from an emergency eyewash station near a carbamate diptank caused about 1500 gallons of carbamate woodtreatment solution to overflow onto the loading dock and pool in a paved truck ramp. The storm drain for the truck ramp was clogged, causing the spill to affect a limited area. Cascade staff discovered the spill on the morning of Dec. 14. Preliminary response actions included recovering free product for reuse, buiilding a containment dam along the truck ramp, and pumping a mixture of water and product into storage tanks. Some free product was recovered for reuse, and commingled water and product was pumped into storage tanks. Impacted water was treated on-site using an existing granular activated carbon system. effluent from the GAC treatment system was discharged to the sanitary sewer system under an agreement with the Cit of Medford's Regional Water Reclamation Facility. Approximately 10 cubic yards of impacted soil were stockpiled under cover at the site, characterized, and ultimately disposed of at the Dry Creek landfill in Eagle Point, Oregon. After treating the impacted water, saturated carbon from the on-site GAC treatment system was removed by EnviroSupply, Inc. and shipped to California Carbon Company, Inc. for reprocessing.
Certificate of completion issued by DEQ on 9/6/13, certifying completion of the work under DEQ Consent Order WMSCSR-WR-99-01.
