Plaza Dry Cleaners (Former)

Summary Information
(last updated on: 12/28/2012 10:42:40 AM)
[Dec. 2012] Plaza Dry Cleaners operated at the Santiam Plaza shopping center in Sweet Home from 1971 to 2001, when it was closed and the building was razed. Dry cleaning solvent (perchloroethylene or PCE) contamination was detected in the soil and groundwater beneath the site in 2001 by the property owner. In April 2002, the site was accepted into DEQ's Dry Cleaner Program. DEQ conducted a focused site investigation in 2005 and in 2006 began cleaning up the soil (excavation) and groundwater (bioremediation). Groundwater cleanup continued until November 2007, and was successful in removing much of the PCE from the site. Soil was treated and used as fill on the northern part of the site. The site is currently being evaluated for closure by the Dry Cleaner Program.
