Local Projects
DEQ's Western Region has put an emphasis on solving problems at the
community level. Environmental problems rarely fit within the
narrow scope of a single program. Often, the solution requires
coordination with other agencies and community organizations. DEQ
has managed to leverage the efforts of other community volunteers
and other organizations. This has allowed DEQ a much
greater impact than if DEQ had been acting alone. This often
means DEQ must step outside its traditional regulatory role,
and provide technical assistance and community outreach.
