DEQ's Yamhill Water Quality Improvement Plan: A "TMDL"

Image of South Yamhill at Gold CreekPortions of the Yamhill River and its tributaries do not meet state water quality standards for temperature, bacteria, dissolved oxygen, iron, manganese and the pesticide chlorpyrifos. DEQ will be developing pollution reduction targets for these six stream health measurements.

Portions of streams where DEQ finds that state water quality standards are not met are put on a list named for a section of the Clean Water Act (the 303(d) list). DEQ must then develop pollution reduction targets known as Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for those streams. When implemented, these pollution limits will improve water quality and ensure the Yamhill River and tributaries are healthy for fish and wildlife, and safe for fishing and swimming.
