Sanitary Sewer Overflows

In order to protect the health of the public and of the environment from sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs), DEQ has developed an Internal Management Directive (IMD) that includes information on the following:

  • Measures that can be taken to prevent SSOs
  • Requirements for reporting SSOs
  • Development of Emergency Response and Public Notification Plans
  • Circumstances under which DEQ may take enforcement action
