Current News

  • October 17, 2011: EPA approves revised WQ standards for human health
On Oct. 17, EPA approved Oregon’s revised standards for toxic pollutants affecting human health. The new standards are now in effect. DEQ is working with affected permit holders to explain the revisions and how their operations may change. While many permit holders will not be affected by the revised standards, some pollution dischargers will. Affected facilities may see changes when they renew their discharge permits. For more information about the revised standards, including a Q & A and fact sheet, please see DEQ’s webpage on the human health toxic pollutants rulemaking and implementation.

  • October 2011: DEQ Revises Industrial Stormwater Discharge Permits

  • DEQ has issues revised versions of its 1200-Z and 1200-COLS stormwater discharge permits for industrial facilities. The permits affect about 900 industrial dischargers in Oregon, including about 770 operating under the statewide 1200-Z permit, and about 140 operating under the geographic-based 1200-COLS permit for industries discharging into the Columbia Slough in the Portland metro area. These revised permits are significantly different from the existing permits and include additional requirements that must be met. For more information on all the changes associated with these permits, please see DEQ's NPDES Stormwater Discharge Permits - Industrial Activities webpage: http://www.deq.state.or.us/wq/stormwater/industrial.htm

  • DEQ has decided to delay the planned issuance of both the NPDES Pesticide General Permit (2300A) and the Irrigation District General Permit (2000J) due to the extension granted until October 31, 2011 by the Sixth Circuit Court. NPDES permits for pesticide applications are not required until October 31, 2011. DEQ will continue to accept public comments on the Irrigation District Permit until the comment period closes on April 15, 2011 at 5 p.m. For more information and to view the public notice, visit DEQ's Pesticide Applications into Surface Waters web page.
