This page has tips on how to use the LLID Application to find
information on Longitude and Latitude, LLID, Name, and River
Mile.
LLID is the unique 13-digit code used to identify
streams in a geo-referenced hydrography system. The code is derived from
decimal degrees of Longitude (7 characters) and
Latitude (6 characters) at the mouth of a stream.
River Mile is the location for a point on a stream
in miles from the mouth of the stream.
| Selecting Map Layers |
|
Layers can be added or removed from the map, as shown in the image to
the right. The map layers are well-known features like cities, major
roads, minor roads, county boundaries and sub-basin boundaries that may
be useful geographic references. Also included are streams, large lakes,
small lakes and zip code boundaries.
The Minor Roads layer is a detailed layer that will only be shown when
the Map Width (shown at bottom of map) is 15 miles or less.
To add layers: Click on the box for each layer to checkmark. Then click
on the “Redraw Map” button at the bottom of the list.
To remove layers: Click on the box to uncheck the layer and click on the
“Redraw Map” button.

| Identify LLIDs and River Mile |
|
To identify stream LLIDs and river miles, the Streams layer needs to be
turned on. The Streams layer can be turned on or off at any time, but
the map will re-draw faster when zoomed in to a smaller area on the map.
To identify stream LLID and River Mile: Select “Streams” from Features
to Identify at top of map, then click on the stream at the point of
interest. The stream name (if name is available) and LLID, and the
River Mile, Latitude, and Longitude of the point will appear in the
column to left of map. The point clicked on the stream will show as a
red circle on the map and the selected stream will be highlighted in
red. Zoom in to a Map Width (shown below the map) of 1 mile or less for
an accurate River Mile.
To find specific stream using LLID: De-construct LLID into
longitude and latitude, and use “Locate Lat/Long” in column to the left
of the map. For example, LLID 1231425447502 represents a stream
with mouth at Longitude -123.1425 and Latitude 44.7502 (Santiam River).

| Locate Latitude and Longitude |
|
To locate a specific point with known latitude and longitude: In the
column to the left of the map under “Locate Lat/Long”, type in the
latitude (in decimal degrees) in the form yy.yyyy and the longitude (in
decimal degrees) in the form –xxx.xxxx and click “Locate” button. The
point for that location will be displayed on the map as a yellow circle.

Several control options are provided above the map, as shown in the
image below:
Click on the Map to:
Zoom In or Zoom Out - See more map details or move out for a broader
view. Click on the “Zoom In” or “Zoom Out” button, then click on the
map.
Pan - Move the map display horizontally or vertically to show other
areas. Click on “Pan” button , then click on the map. The map will
re-draw and be centered on the point that was clicked.
Map Latitude/Longitude - Identify the latitude and longitude at any
point on the map. The point is displayed on the map as a cyan circle,
and the latitude and longitude are displayed in the column on left of
map.
Select feature to identify:
Identify individual features on the map - Select the map layers with the
features of interest and Redraw the map. Click on the button of the
feature type of interest, then click on the map on the specific feature
to identify.
Cities, Major Roads, Minor Roads, Large Lakes, Small Lakes, or Zip Code
- The individual feature will be highlighted on the map and a label with
the specific feature information will be added to the map. Example:
Redraw map showing Large Lake layer. Click on a lake in the map
and a label with the lake name will be shown.
Streams – The stream name (if name is available) and LLID, and the River
Mile, Latitude, and Longitude of the point clicked on the stream will
appear in the column to the left of map. The point clicked on the map
will show as a red circle on the map and the stream will be highlighted
in red. For better results if multiple streams and tributaries
appear highlighted, zoom in to a Map Width of 25 miles or less to
correctly select and identify the stream of interest.

Several control options are provided below the map, as shown in the
image below:
Map Width - Displays the width of the map image in
miles. This information is helpful to know if map is zoomed in or out.
For best results, the Map Width should be 25 miles or less to identify a
stream on the map and 1 mile or less to identify the River Mile of a
point on a stream. The Minors Roads map layer will not be visible until
the Map Width is 15 miles or less.
Reset Image and Return to Full Extent – Returns the map image to the
statewide view and turns off all map layers.
Help Icon - Clicking on the question-mark icon will
open another window containing information to help the user.
Find Sub-Basin - Choose one of the 90 sub-basins in Oregon from the drop
down list and then click on the “Go” button to zoom in to the selected
sub-basin.
Find County - Choose one of the 36 counties in Oregon from the drop
down list and then click on the “Go” button to zoom in to the selected
county.
Address Matching:
Enter a street address: Include the number, quadrant, street name and
street type (e.g. 811 SW 6th Ave). Do not enter the city name.
or Intersection: Separate the two street names with a plus "+" sign.
and Zip Code: Zip Code map layer may be useful reference layer to turn
on.
Then, click on “Find Candidates” button. The map will zoom in to the
address or street intersection.
Match Status: Indicates how well the application was able to match the
address to the address database.
Review candidates: Drop down list of the top ten candidates found in the
address database. The top candidate is indicated on the map with a green
circle symbol, and the latitude and longitude are displayed on the left
side of the display.
