Employee Commute Options - ECO

Employee Commute Options (ECO) Program

bikes on bike rackMotor vehicles are one of the largest sources of air pollution in the Portland area. Under the DEQ ECO program, employers with more than 100 employees must provide commute alternatives to employees designed to reduce the number of cars driven to work in Portland and surrounding areas. The ECO Program is part of the Portland-Vancouver Air Plan to ensure the region will meet the federal health-based ozone standard in spite of continued population growth. In 2008, 780 participating employers reduced over 3 million commute trips. This prevented about 134 tons of smog-forming pollution from getting into the region's air.

If you have more than 100 employees at a single work site, you are subject to ECO.  Please call us at 503-229-6154 or e-mail eco@deq.state.or.us, if you need information on how to comply, or ore unsure what your next steps are.
