DEQ Issues $3,600 Penalty to Conway Construction Company violations during Morrison Bridge repair project

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued a $3,600 penalty to Conway Construction Company for water quality violations during construction work on the Morrison Bridge during July 2011.

DEQ issued the penalty to the company for leaving wastes where it could get into the Willamette River.

DEQ also cited Conway Construction for spilling a small amount of epoxy to into the river on Oct. 20, 2011. DEQ did not assess a penalty for this because it was a small spill and Conway Construction quickly made sure that no more epoxy would get into the river.

Conway Construction has corrected the violations by installing a new containment system at the Morrison Bridge project. DEQ took these efforts into consideration in determining the penalty.

Conway Construction has appealed the penalty.
