DEQ to Hold October 20 Hearing for Riverbend Landfill Air Permit

Comments on the proposed permit due October 26

What:             The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality will hold a hearing on proposed air permits for Riverbend Landfill.  The permitting action would renew the current air permit and allow construction and operation of a system to use landfill gas to create electric power.

When:             Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Information session begins at 6 p.m. Hearing will follow.

Where:           Yamhill County Courthouse

                        535 NE 5th Street

                        Basement Room 32

                        McMinnville, Oregon

Background:  DEQ is inviting comment on the proposed permitting actions to allow for construction and operation of six internal combustion engines and a new enclosed flare at the Riverbend Landfill near McMinnville.  The engines would produce electric power that would be sold to the power grid.

The installation of the engines and new flare should also reduce odors from the landfill.

DEQ is combining a scheduled air permit renewal with permit modifications for constructing and operating the engines.

Comments are due by 5 p.m. October 26, 2009, and should be directed to Gary Andes, DEQ, 750 Front Street NE, suite 120, Salem OR 97301 or to andes.gary@deq.state.or.us.
