DEQ, City of Portland Sign Agreement for Loan for
Johnson Creek Project
Project completion expected in 2009
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has signed an agreement with the City of Portland on a $100,000 Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) Loan for a Johnson Creek project to improve water quality, provide habitat for salmon recovery and reduce flooding.
The project will relocate and rehabilitate a previously channelized portion of Johnson Creek, lower the adjacent floodplain surfaces to reconnect the creek with its floodplain and create new wetlands on the adjacent floodplain surfaces.
The DEQ Clean Water State Revolving Fund program loans money to public entities across the state, helping communities complete a variety of water quality improvement projects. Loans have ranged from $7,000 to $35 million. DEQ administers the program, which is supported from annual grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
