Checklists and Evaluation Tools

These evaluation tools are designed to help users of packaging identify potential improvements with regards to materials and waste considerations. Three tools are available.

  1. Stock packaging checklist PDF
For users of simple stock (not custom) packaging, such as cartons, bags, and void fills.
  2. Custom designed packaging checklist PDF
For more complex packaging systems and custom engineered packaging. This checklist only addresses waste-related considerations.
  3. Packaging design and planning template PDF
A comprehensive document designed to help packaging professionals ask the right questions in the right order to incorporate environmental considerations into packaging selection. Includes documentation of environmental goals, package destination, relevant regulations, mode of shipping, company-specific requirements, raw material selection, and design. The template is an excerpt from the “Environmental Packaging Guideline For the Electronics Industry”, University of California, Santa Barbara.
