Beyond the BinOregon Resource Efficiency ProgramThe Oregon Resource Efficiency Program, created by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), explored ways to use resources more efficiently in communities throughout Oregon. This program combines materials, energy, water, and conservation into a coordinated effort that builds on public and private partnerships. Working with DEQ, participating communities sponsored the program through local organizations, e.g. the chamber of commerce, the city, or a local business. The program provided businesses, public agencies, and schools an opportunity to evaluate their use of materials, energy, and water, and make changes in the way they use those resources. This not only saves resources, it cuts costs and enhances the quality of life in a community. For a report evaluating the results of some of these community programs, click here.
