Union Pacific Railyard Cleanup, Eugene - Groundwater Cleanup Activities

On-Site Groundwater Cleanup
In 2005 and 2006 Union Pacific conducted a cleanup of solvent chemicals in groundwater in the suspected source area near the former Turntable on the Railyard. This cleanup utilized bioremediation to help stimulate the natural degradation process, using sugar water (dextrose) as the primary bioremediation amendment. The bioremediation was conducted as an Interim Remedial Action Measure (IRAM) while the remedial investigation was completed. The bioremediation has been very successful in reducing concentrations of PCE and TCE in the source zoneand has helped to decrease solvent concentrations in the groundwater in the Trainsong and River Road neighborhoods.
