Site SummaryIn a 1999 Preliminary Assessment, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identified potential public health and environmental threats from mercury contamination at the Bonanza mine. In EPA's 2000 Site Investigation, soil and sediment samples collected at the mine site indicated high levels of arsenic and mercury, confirming that the Bonanza Mine posed a serious threat to public and environmental health.
