Site SummaryA residential home is now located on the site of the former lead smelter, the Multnomah Metals Company at 236 SW Flower Street in Portland. The grounds of the property are contaminated by residual lead from smelter operations. DEQ is actively working with the current owner to clean up the property - scheduled to begin in November 2012. DEQ also has found several neighboring properties with lead-contaminated soil most likely associated with lead waste from the former smelter. The US Environmental Protection Agency has conducted additional investigations on these properties to determine if additional cleanup action is necessary.
