Astoria Marine Construction
Environmental Cleanup Site Information Number (ECSI):
1898
County: Clatsop City: Astoria Region: Northwest Contact InformationProject Manager:
Chuck Harman
Site SummaryThe Astoria Marine Construction site and adjacent river sediments are contaminated with tributyltin and heavy metals from ship refurbishment operations from 1926 to present. DEQ will oversee the investigation and cleanup of contaminated soil, groundwater and sediments at the site under an agreement signed with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In March 2011, EPA had proposed the site for inclusion on EPA’s list of most contaminated sites in the nation, the Superfund National Priorities List. In September 2012, EPA deferred the site listing and transferred site management to DEQ. DEQ signed a consent order with the company to guide the cleanup investigation and evaluation of potential clean-up actions that must meet federal cleanup standards.
