Site SummaryDEQ is currently overseeing environmental investigations at the Floragon site. Lumber-related manufacturing occurred from about 1947 to 2009 at the Avison Lumber Mills formerly located on the Floragon property. An initial investigation of soil, groundwater, and sediment contamination was recently completed. The investigation found chemicals from former mill operations in soil and groundwater near former dip tanks used to treat wood (located in the southern part of the site), in perimeter ditches, and in Bear Creek sediment on the site. Chemicals found at the site include dioxins and furans, petroleum, and phenols. The investigation did not find significant contamination in soil or groundwater in the northern site. Groundwater contamination in the south site is very localized. Additional investigation is planned for early 2012. Current Documents and Supporting InformationFact sheetsMore information
