Site Summary

The site is a former Air Force Station Radar Base located outside of Burns in Harney County, Oregon.  The primary concern at this site was the threat of release of CERCLA hazardous substances and pollutant or contaminants, specifically friable asbestos from deteriorating abandoned buildings and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) contaminated soils at or near the surface at the site.  DEQ requested help from the EPA to conduct a Removal Action at the site to remove unsafe buildings, asbestos and PCB contaminated soil that was necessary to stabilize the site.
