Lower Bridge

Site Summary

This property is approximately 550+ acres located about 6 miles west of Terrebonne in sections 15 and 16, Township 14 South, Range 12 East.  Presently, the site has both a non-operational diatomaceous earth mining and processing area, and a sand and gravel pit.  The mining permit for this site closed in 2006.  The area immediately surrounding the Project site includes farm land and rural residential areas with individual domestic water wells servicing each home.  In the middle 1970s, a portion of the site was initially permitted by the DEQ for the disposal of hazardous wastes.  Very little waste was disposed of at the site before the permit was revoked; virtually all of the waste materials were stored in drums on the site.  Under a DEQ-supervised clean-up, all wastes stored and disposed of at the site were removed in 1984.  There has been recent interest in development of the site for residential parcels and/or reopening the mine to diatomaceous earth mining or continuing sand and gravel operations.
