Interactive Maps of Portland Air Toxics 2017 Modeling Study

Update for September 17, 2014 - Our interactive maps are currently offline, but we expect to have them restored to service soon. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The Portland Air Toxics Solutions project produced a technical study that included an analysis of available monitoring information and computer model estimates of Portland’s expected pollutant levels in the year 2017.

These two maps contain information about levels of air toxics estimated in the modeling study for the Portland region. Each dot is the center of a census block where the model estimated annual concentrations of 19 pollutants for 2017.

The first map shows cumulative air toxics emissions with darker shades indicating higher concentrations. Hovering on the dots in this map will show for each location estimated times above the air toxics benchmark for modeled pollutants.

The second map also shows cumulative air toxics estimates and source category estimates. Darker shades indicate higher concentrations. You can click on a category listed on the left hand side of the page to see how it influences concentrations. Hovering on any dot will show a percentage breakdown of the contributions from all the listed sources.

It is possible to move around and zoom in on map features by clicking on areas or by using the hand, select, zoom or scale tools in the lower right hand corner of each map.

Although DEQ used the best information available to produce these maps, it is important to understand that data displayed are estimated levels of pollutants, not actual measured levels.
