Climate Change: Information Series for the EQC

DEQ's Environmental Quality Commission (EQC) is receiving a series of informational items at regularly planned commission meetings. The goal is to help commissioners establish baseline scientific knowledge on climate change so they may make informed policy decisions. Below are the recordings of these information items.

Dr. Philip Mote, OSU:
Dr. Mote is a leading scientist on the impacts of climate change, including variations in Pacific Northwest and national snowpacks, sea levels, water resources, precipitation and temperatures. He was a lead author for the fourth assessment report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which received a Nobel Prize for its efforts.
Jessica Shipley, Pew Center:
Jessica Shipley is a Solutions Fellow at the Pew Center on Global Climate Change where she assists the Vice President of Innovative Solutions on state-level policy and on agriculture and forestry related climate issues. She is involved in researching and communicating technology solutions for reducing greenhouse gases in a variety of sectors and assisting with Pew policy work on forestry and agricultural offsets.
Ben Vitale, president The Climate Trust:
The mission of The Climate Trust, the Oregon CO2 Offset program, NW Natural Smart Energy, Climate Trust work with the PUC and the Offset Quality Network Best Practice Resource for policy makers.
Dr. Thomas Peterson, National Climatic Data Center (NOAA):
Dr. Peterson is a research meteorologist at NOAA's National Climatic Data Center and chair of the World Meteorological Organization's Commission for Climatology.

A panel of presenters on Adaptation to Climate Change in Oregon:

Dr. Rob Zako, Greenhouse gas strategies for transportation
Dr. Zako has a Ph.D. in theoretical particle physics from Berkeley and a B.A. in mathematics from Harvard. He was an independent transportation consultant before joining Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development.
