Summary Information
(last updated on: 5/7/2009 2:40:31 PM)
Red Rock Road is a 17-mile long former railroad grade located in Douglas County. The railroad grade was constructed of mine tailings from the Bonanza Mine (ECSI #2672), where cinnabar (mercury ore) was extracted. The mine tailings used to construct the road are considered a potential source of low level metal contamination. Mercury and arsenic are the primary contaminants of interest. DEQ is currently working on evaluating the level of threat the tailings may pose to owners in the vicinity of the road.
